In 1859, The Forest Methodist Episcopal Church began as a mission outreach of the Indian Mission Church in Upper Sandusky. Wood was purchased to build the first church building the following year, but was delayed due to so many of the men going off to fight in the Civil War. It was finally built in 1865. A beautiful new brick church was built in 1902, but burned to the ground the following week. The congregation raised funds to rebuild the following year. In 1942, the church joined with the Methodist Protestant Church to become the Forest Methodist Church, and then in 1968 became a part of the new United Methodist Church. The Forest UMC has been very active in the community through the years, as well as focusing on teaching and preaching the Good News.
